Our 2nd Annual COASTSWEEP event was held on Saturday, October 21st at Long Beach and Cape Hedge Beach and was quite a success!
Close to 50 volunteers (of all ages) came out on a beautiful fall day (almost 70 degrees!) to help keep our beaches clean; there were approximately 50 large contractor-size bags filled. Lots of fishing rope, gear, and traps were picked up off the beach as well. Volunteers collected upwards of 550 pounds of trash, debris, and gear.
We thank all of the volunteers who came out for anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours in some cases to assist with the event and effort! A big thank you to the local media outlets that assisted and 104.9 radio. Thank you to Market Basket for their generous gift card in helping us to offer refreshments to our volunteers. And, a big thank you to the Rockport DPW who assists in the pick-up of the dozens of trash bags and fishing gear.
