Rockport Conservation Commission Earth Day Subcommittee Charge:
1. To plan tasks for Earth Day 2020 celebration event and activities throughout the year (2020).
2. To meet regularly to create a year of Earth Day activities. All meetings will be subject to the state’s Open Meeting Laws.
3. To regular (seasonally?) update to the RCC on events and activities created.
4. The subcommittee existence to expire after 2020.
Whereas the Conservation Commission has usually been in charge of planning public open space clean-ups on Earth Day each year, the last Earth Day celebration in April 2019 was expanded to also include several other activities, spanning a week in April.
The 2020 Earth Day celebration planning ideas would be expanded even further, to include monthly celebrations with related activities, spanning the entire year of 2020. The year 2020 is very special in that Earth Day is then celebrating its 50th anniversary and 2020’s Earth Day will be of extra importance.
The need for this expansion is also evident in that public awareness and participation are key to achieve real change toward a greener future in this town, The work load for this expanded celebration will require a subcommittee, charged with the planning tasks of Earth Day 2020 events and activities.
Chairman McKinnon moves to accept this charge as written; Ms. Damassa seconds.
Vote 6:0. August 28, 2019.
