Economic Development and Sustainability

Aims to foster and improve the economy of the town and its commercial areas through small business support, neighborhood revitalization efforts, and business attraction.

The Economic Development function is a volunteer, unpaid committee of up to nine individuals that, under the within Community Development, seeks to enhance and expand the future viability and vitality of the Town of Rockport through multi-year, long-range planning.  This planning is focused on improving the outlooks over time for business diversity and balanced demographics, with the ultimate goal of supporting town services while maintaining the town's unique character.  The EDC has amongst its immediate priorities the following: 1) to promote Rockport as a positive place to live, work, or do business through a year-round targeted professional media campaign to specific markets and publics; 2) to collaborate with other town departments or organizations to facilitate short and long term business and residential development; and 3) to establish and utilize relationships with regional groups and organizations to address mutual demographic trends and issues affecting all of Cape Ann, including Rockport.
